Characteristics:
- Less constricting
- Ability to eat, drink and expectorate
- Better suited to long-term use
Uses:
- Infrequently used in acute respiratory failure (ARF) due to prevalence of mouth breathing1
Characteristics:
- Tight fitting and can be constricting
- Can cause pressure ulcers
- Hard to talk, eat, drink and expectorate
Uses:
- Is most commonly used in ARF as does not lose pressure via mouth or nose breathing1
